Mahmoud taken to task...
Conservative Iranian Newspaper Criticizes Ahmadinejad
21 November 2007 - A conservative newspaper in Iran has issued a rare public critique of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, accusing him of behaving inappropriately by discrediting political rivals and private universities.
Quote:
The Jomhuri Eslami editorial published Wednesday refers to Mr. Ahmadinejad's remarks last week to students on the subjects of Tehran's nuclear ambitions and education reform.
The editorial chastises the president for labeling Iranian officials who oppose Tehran's moves to acquire nuclear technology as traitors and spies. The editorial says the proper authorities should investigate such accusations and the judicial branch should hear such cases. It says no one should attempt to prejudge court rulings.
The Jomhuri Eslami editorial also criticizes Mr. Ahmadinejad for saying private universities waste public funds on irrelevant activities. It says education reform should be handled calmly by the appropriate officials, not through what it called "sloganeering." Direct personal attacks against the president are rare in Iranian media. The newspaper that published Wednesday's editorial is close to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Jews, Christians Working to Indict Ahmadinejad
Friday, October 17, 2008 – A number of prominent American Christians are joining forces with Jewish efforts to indict Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on charges of incitement to genocide, Jews and Christians said in Jerusalem on Thursday.
Quote:
Ahmadinejad has called Israel a “fake regime” that “must be wiped off the map.” He has called the murder of six million Jews during World War II a “myth.” In September he said that Israel was “on a definite slope to collapse” and there was no way out of the “cesspool” it had created for itself. He recently he called the Jewish State a “stinking corpse.” His comments, coupled with Iran’s aggressive civilian nuclear program, which the West believes is a cover up for obtaining nuclear weapons, has prompted the grassroots effort to indict the Iranian leader. Several rounds of international sanctions have not stopped Iran’s enrichment of uranium, which can be used to make a nuclear bomb.
“It is disturbing to see the inactivity of the international community in reacting appropriately to the alarming threat that grows day by day,” said Malcolm Hedding, executive director of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem. Hedding compared the comments of Ahmadinejad to those of former German dictator Adolf Hitler, who used “similar words” and “caused the destruction of the Jewish people.” At the time, there were those who rushed to meet with him and appease him, even declaring “peace in our time,” Hedding told journalists here. “There has to be a grassroots movement that sends a message to politicians and leaders in Europe that there are millions of people who are demanding action on this issue [Iran],” said Hedding.
During the United Nations General Assembly session in September, the ICEJ delivered a petition to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, signed by more than 55,000 Christians from more than 120 countries, demanding the indictment of Ahmadinejad for incitement to genocide against Israel. Since then a number of prominent American Christians have joined the effort, including Christian Broadcasting Network founder Pat Robertson, former U.S. presidential hopeful Gary Bauer and Catholic League President Bill Donohue.
“The nation of Israel is experiencing the most maximum danger since its founding. Without question the fanatical extremists in Tehran have made clear their intention to annihilate Israel,” Robertson said in a statement. “Idle threats have so far proved fruitless. The time to act is now.” “This is a moment of great testing for all free men and women around the world,” said Bauer, president of American Values. “Silence and inaction are unacceptable. He must be brought to justice, and he must be prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons.”

Iran's new threat to Israel...
Iran test-fires new missile, Israel within reach
Wed Nov 12, 2008 - Iran said it test-fired a new generation of surface-to-surface missile Wednesday and that the Islamic Republic was ready to defend itself against any attacker.
Quote:
Iran's latest missile test followed persistent speculation in recent months of possible U.S. or Israeli strikes against its nuclear facilities, which the West suspects form part of a covert weapons program, a charge Tehran denies. U.S. President-elect Barack Obama, like outgoing U.S. President George W. Bush, has not ruled out military action although he has criticized the Bush administration for not pursuing more diplomacy and engagement with Tehran.
Iranian Defence Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said the Iranian-made surface-to-surface Sejil missile had "extremely high capabilities" and was only intended for defensive purposes. He said it had a range of close to 2,000 km (1,200 miles), almost as much as another Iranian missile called Shahab 3. That would enable it to reach Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf.
"This missile test is in the framework of Iran's deterrent doctrine," the official IRNA news agency quoted him as saying. "It will only land on the heads of those enemies ... who want to make an aggression and invade the Islamic Republic," said Najjar, who did not mention any country by name. Iran's English-language Press TV said the Sejil missile had two stages and was of a type that used combined solid fuel. A missile was shown soaring from a platform in desert-like terrain, leaving a long vapor trail.
