Bye-bye polar bears...

Polar bears in danger of extinction
Friday 7th September, 2007 The world's polar bear population could almost be gone by mid-century.
Quote:
According to a US geological survey report, two thirds of the polar bear population could be wiped out by global warming.

The survey has used computer models to predict the fate of polar bears after sea ice vanishes in the Arctic.

The report will now be used to determine whether the arctic bear should be classified as a threatened species.

In January, the US Fish and Wildlife Service proposed listing the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act, noting polar bears depended on sea ice as a platform to hunt seals.

I visited the Pittsburgh Zoo last month. The polar bear exhibit was incredible. They built an underground glass tunnel beneath the polar bears' tank. You could see them swimming and playing above you. It was beautiful.

See pic of the exhibit

Watching the show Planet Earth, I was amazed that polar bears could swim for hundreds of miles at a time, but even the show made mention of how global warming is effecting thier habitat.
