Default Public Smoking

Do you think smoking in public places should be banned. I agree with banning it from restaurants, but banning it from taverns and out doors around public places? Just to let you know- I am a non smoker.

Smoking is not permitted in bars or restaurants where I live. They passed this bill about five years ago. There is a neighboring town that does allow smoking - but only in the bar area. So, the smokers flock there and most of the bars here in town have just about closed down due to the lack of patrons.

If people want to smoke, they can smoke at home or in their cars. They shouldn't be allowed to smoke in public. I have pulmonary problems, I shouldn't be forced to breathe their second hand smoke into my, already less than healthy, lungs. If smokers could see the world from my point of view they wouldn't be making such a fuss over their rights. I have rights too. They're slowly killing themselves while I'm fighting everyday to try to stay healthy.

I was living in Buenos Aires ( 2 years ago ) and smoke legislation was null.
You can smoke at restaurants, internet cybercafes ( lot of kinds insede) and in any public places.
I think today everybody know what happen is you smoke or a person next to you breathe this vicious air.

As a non-smoker, I am most probably swayed towards banning it in all places. However, I think it would be fair to let people smoke in public as long as it is not in buildings (outside only).

I think that is an excellent point. I never thought of a curfew. There is one pizza place we go to that will not let you smoke after a certain time because that is when families come out.

I think that smoking should be banned, because smokers do harm to others when they smoke in public.

Yes I agree that public smoking should be banned , I don't care much if people decide to poison themselves , but why would I have to breath theyr poison ?

I can't stand the smoke of cigarets , I get ill from it .

I live in Texas and the smoking bans are just taking off and let me tell you what a controversy all this is causing. I am a non-smoker but my opinion on all this is mixed. I agree with banning smoking in restaurants and anyplace that families gather. However, I am undecided on bars and taverns. I understand the health risks but in those places, smoking is part of the atmosphere. People go to bars to have a drink, smoke, dance, play pool, shuffleboard, darts, whatever. It's a place to relax. I am leaning more toward allowing smoking in bars and taverns but also having adequate ventilation so it does not get overwhelming.

I totally agree with you here. I also agree it should be banned everywhere as it isn't fair on the people who have to breathe in the second hand smoke.
I think creating a smoking curfew in public places is still wrong but i see where the smokers point of view would come from.

Selling clearly identified cancerigenic products should be illegal.

Following this logic, all smoking should permanently be banned. No exceptions. There doesn't exist a single "smokeable" substance on Earth for which the benefits surpass the problems.

Smoke kills.

Whatever "flavor" that may be...

I agree that public smoking should be banned entirely. If they want to smoke they could do it privately in their own homes and not where a child could inhale their smoke.

In some countries like Turkey police penalizes people, who smoke in Public. I hate smoking, but my father does... I think, authority should band smoke in public.
