Men are tough, Women are nuts
Men are tough, Women are nuts
Remember the book "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" about the differences between men and women? Here's a prime example offered by an English professor at the University of Phoenix. The English professor gave his class this exercise:
"Today we will experiment with a new form called the 'tandem story'. The process is simple: Each person will pair off with the person sitting to his or her immediate right. As homework tonight, one of you will write the first paragraph of a short story. You will e-mail your partner that paragraph and send another copy to me. The partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story and send it back also sending another copy to me. The first person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back and forth. Remember to re-read what has been written each time in order to keep the story coherent. There is to be absolutely NO talking outside of the e-mails and anything you wish to say must be written in the e-mail. The story is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached." The following was actually turned in by two of his English students; Rebecca and Gary.
----------------------------------------------
The Story, first paragraph by Rebecca: At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was out of the question.
----------------------------------------------
Second paragraph by Gary: Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation 17" he said into his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance so far..." But before he could sign off a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship's cargo bay.
The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit.
----------------------------------------------
Rebecca: He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel," Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth, when the days had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspapers to read, no television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the beautiful things around her. "Why must one lose one's innocence to become a woman?" she pondered wistfully.
----------------------------------------------
Gary: Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership launched the first of its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his top-secret Mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized poor, stupid, Laurie and 85 million other Americans. The President slammed his fist on the conference table. "We can't allow this! I'm going to veto that treaty! Let's blow 'em out of the sky!"
----------------------------------------------
Rebecca: This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent.
----------------------------------------------
Gary: Yeah? Well, you're a self-centered tedious neurotic whose attempts at writing are the literary equivalent of Valium. "Oh shall I have chamomile tea? Or shall I have some other sort of ING TEA??? Oh no, I'm such an air headed bimbo who reads too many Danielle Steele novels."
----------------------------------------------
Rebecca: .
----------------------------------------------
Gary: Bitch.
----------------------------------------------
Rebecca: DICK!
----------------------------------------------
Gary: Slut.
----------------------------------------------
Rebecca: Get ed.
----------------------------------------------
Gary: Eat .
----------------------------------------------
Rebecca: YOU - YOU NEANDERTHAL!!!
----------------------------------------------
Gary: Go drink some tea - whore.
**********************************************
Professor: A+ - I really liked this one. Only group to get an A.

Study: Blonde women make men dumb
Nov. 18, 2007 -- Encounters with blonde women such as U.S. film icon Marilyn Monroe make men's mental performance decline, a study has found.
Quote:
University of Paris X-Nanterre professor Thierry Meyer said the study he co-authored found that when men are around blonde women, their mental performance declines due to prevailing social stereotypes, The Sunday Times of London reported.
The social psychology professor said study subjects were given general knowledge tests after being exposed to a variety of women, and seemed unconsciously to begin to "think blonde." "This proves that people confronted with stereotypes generally behave in line with them," Meyer said. "In this case blondes have the potential to make people act in a dumber way, because they mimic the unconscious stereotype of the dumb blonde."
Although the finding appeared to reinforce the influence of stereotypes on behaviors and abilities, "EastEnders" and "Doctor Who" star Michelle Collins had a different take. "I don't think it's to do with hair at all; it's all about the breasts," the blonde actress told the newspaper.

Wealth, not looks attracts women
12 Dec 2007, Planning to settle down? Pester your boss for a pay hike because it is your income and wealth which your prospective better half would be looking at before tying the knot.
Quote:
A team of international researchers has carried out a study and found that a man's riches, and not his looks, are the most important if he wants to get married, The Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday. Although there have been many lab based studies that have suggested that women are drawn to men of high status, power and wealth, rather than just looks, this new study has provided hard evidence of the marriage market in action.
The researchers came to the conclusion after analysing a survey of more than 20,000 American men, based on historical data collected in 1910 -- which suggested how when males were in short supply, for instance in the wake of the World War I, women were happy to put up with poorer partners.
And when men were commonplace, women were in the driving seat and became correspondingly more choosy, driving a bargain for the richest and most powerful men, with the marriage prospects of a male pauper being "drastically reduced".

The post that started this thread is interesting in how people think differently. I have participated in interactive stories such as that, where one person adds a paragraph, the next does the same, etc, etc. And it has always fascinated me how people try to move the story into the direction they are most interested in. I don't know if the article though is a good example of all women. I've seen some who were just as into the violent storytelling as any man. I think it's more about personality, rather than sex in some cases, but the stereotype is probably true amongst the full groups.

Police: Texas girl killed her newborn in school restroom by trying to flush it
Friday, April 4, 2008 : A 14-year-old girl gave birth in a restroom at her middle school, and the baby boy cried once before she tried to flush him down the toilet, killing him, officials said.
Quote:
An autopsy confirmed the baby was alive when born Wednesday at Cedar Bayou Junior High in Baytown, near Houston. The boy was probably full term and cried before the mother tried to flush him, police Lt. Eric Freed said Thursday.
The mother was taken to a hospital. People who knew her at school said she wore baggy clothing, and nobody suspected she was pregnant, The Houston Chronicle reported Thursday. School officials learned of her pregnancy when another student who was in the restroom while the girl was in labor went to ask the school nurse for help, said Kathy Clausen, spokeswoman for Baytown's Goose Creek school district.
The nurse and an assistant principal ran to the bathroom, discovered the girl had given birth and called emergency services. Authorities have not announced what charges the girl will face, if any. Killing an infant is a capital crime in Texas, but 14-year-olds are too young to be eligible for the death penalty, said Geoffrey Corn, an assistant professor at South Texas College of Law.
The infant died just three days after another 14-year-old girl delivered a stillborn fetus in the bathroom of an airplane on her way back to Houston from a middle-school field trip. Baytown is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of Houston.

Woman disembowles woman for her baby...
Woman Charged In Killing Expectant Mom, Cutting Out Baby
July 1, 2008 - A Washington woman of Laotian descent is facing murder charges for the gruesome killing of a pregnant Mexican woman and removal of the baby from the victim's womb.
Quote:
Phiengchai Sisouvanh Synhavong, 23, of Kennewick was arrested on Sunday as a suspect in the killing of Araceli Camacho Gomez, whose body was found in Columbia Park on Saturday. Gomez, 27, was found with her hands and feet bound by yarn and with wounds to her chest and stomach. Her womb had been cut open and the fetus removed.
Paramedics found Gomez's baby with the suspect Friday night after Synhavong called 911 to report that she had delivered a baby. The baby, who was not breathing, was revived and taken to the Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane.
A box cutter, bloody gloves, a baby bottle, and yarn in the suspect's purse linked her to the murder. She was about a mile from the park when she made the emergency call. Doctors who checked her found she had not given birth. Synhavong is detained at the Benton County jail without bail.

It surely didn't take a team of international researchers to figure this out. Where can I apply for some of that grant money? I want to research the shape of the Earth to determine if it is spherical or flat.

What ever happened to birth control? Thought it was supposed to put a stop to the ol' `get pregnant an' hang him for child support' game?
More babies being born to unwed mothers
Washington Post / May 14, 2009 - The number of babies being born out of wedlock has increased sharply in the United States, driven primarily by significant jumps in women in their 20s and 30s having children without getting married, according to a federal report released yesterday.
Quote:
More than 1.7 million babies were born to unmarried women in 2007, a 26 percent rise from 2002 and more than double the number in 1980, according to the report from the National Center for Health Statistics. The increase reflected a 21 percent jump in the rates of unmarried women giving birth, which rose from 43.7 per 1,000 women in 2002 to 52.9 per 1,000 women. That means that unmarried women accounted for 39.7 percent of all US births in 2007 - up from 34 percent in 2002 and more than double the percentage in 1980. "It's been a huge increase - a dramatic increase. It's quite striking," said Stephanie Ventura, who led the analysis of birth certificate data nationwide.
Although the report did not examine the reasons for the increase, Ventura and other specialists said the trend has been driven by a combination of factors, including the lessening of the social stigma associated with unmarried motherhood, an increase in couples delaying or forgoing marriage, and growing numbers of financially independent women and older and single women who decide to have children on their own after delaying childbearing.
Some specialists said the trend represents many positive changes for some women - women are less likely to be shunned if they have children by themselves or to be forced to give their children up for adoption. "We've seen a transformation of social norms," said Rosanna Hertz, a sociology professor at Wellesley College. "Women can have children on their own and it's not going to destroy your employment and it's not going to mean that you'll be made a pariah by the community."

one of the things about religious fanatacism - putting blame on the women - telling women to button up etc instead of teaching men to control themselves
instead unaccompanied women are viewed as valid targets and few are safe from being hit upon from the high and mighty
i say try to teach your children respect, never allow them to throw stones, talk about friendships before sex, but allow safe sex, and stop telling your children, especially your sons, that women who put out are not worth a dime
the sooner men realise that women who give of themselves for love should not be devalued in comparison to women who "keep" themselves for the highest bidder the better

From soup to nuts...
Chinese woman boiled man's head in soup to treat daugther's psychiatric problems
Wednesday 24th June, 2009 : In the hope of finding a cure for daughter's psychiatric problems, a woman in China boiled a man's head in a soup, local newspaper reported.
Quote:
Back in 2008, Lin Zongxiu, from the southwestern province of Sichuan had heard that soup made with a man's head could help cure her daughter who had suffered from psychiatric problems for years, the Chengdu Commercial newspaper reported.
After learning the information, Lin and her husband decided to enlist the help of a man in December who knocked unconscious a drunk 76-year-old passer-by before beheading him, the paper claimed. The couple then gave their 25-year-old daughter soup made from the man's head, and duck, reports The Telegraph.
On Monday a local court sentenced the murderer to death with a two-year reprieve, and Lin was convicted of helping to destroy evidence that included the culprit's bloody clothes and shoes, the paper said.

Wife blows new British spy chief's cover online
6 Jul 2009, He’s the spy who came in from the beach.
Quote:
Holiday snapshots and family details about the newly appointed head of Britain’s MI6 intelligence agency have been removed from a social networking page after a newspaper told the government about them.
Pictures from the social networking website published in the Mail newspaper show John Sawers posing with his children, wearing a Santa hat and playing Frisbee on a beach. The paper said the information was posted by Sawers’ wife on the site. It included vacation photos, details about the couple’s three children and the location of their London home.
Shelley Sawers’ page has been removed from the site, although a cached page can still be viewed that shows a picture of the spy chief’s wife. Some politicians called the details a security lapse — but others said they revealed nothing but a few mildly embarrassing domestic details. “It’s not a state secret that he wears Speedo swimming trunks,” said foreign secretary David Miliband. “For goodness’ sake, let’s grow up.”
The Foreign Office would not comment further, but Conservative lawmaker Patrick Mercer, who heads Parliament’s counterterrorism subcommittee, said the revelations left Sawers open “to criticism and blackmail”.

Criticism and blackmail are the least of their worries. With pics, anyone wanting to kill him or his family will not only know who he is but what they look like.

Poll: Women today treated with less chivalry
Monday, August 16, 2010 - Feminists may insist that life for women has gotten better since the days when raucous female activists marched in the streets for equality and questioned traditional social mores about men, marriage and career.
Quote:
Pollsters say otherwise. Things are out of kilter. And pretty dismal, according to a Harris Poll released Monday. Eight out of 10 Americans, in fact, say, "Women today are treated with less chivalry than in the past." Seven out of 10 say women do not receive equal pay for equal work, a bulwark of the feminist war on the status quo. Two-thirds say women are "discriminated against" when it comes to supervisory or executive jobs, while an equal number agree that the U.S. has "a long way to go" to reach gender equality. Just 35 percent said women got equal pay for equal work.
There's another toll, and a telling one: A majority of the respondents — 52 percent — say relations between men and women are not "fine" these days. Just 13 percent, in fact, strongly agreed that the sexes are in harmony. The feminist fervor appears to have lost its cachet as well. About three-fourths of Americans across the board — men, women, Republicans, Democrats — say that the nation has "more important issues to fix" than gender equality.
The poll of 2,227 adults was conducted June 14-21 and released, more or less, to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which guarantees a woman's right to vote. "Some may argue things are better, but there is still the undercurrent that there are issues, especially when it comes to pay and employment, where things have not yet approached an equal footing with men," said Regina Corso, director of the Harris Poll. Something is missing, she noticed.

Uncle Ferd says, "If ya value yer marriage, don't be rubbin' it in ladies...
Men Cheat on Women Who Earn More
August 18, 2010 - It’s an age old question: What drives men to cheat? One researcher claims to have the answer, and like most things in this world, it involves money.
Quote:
According to a new study, young men are more likely to be unfaithful when their spouse earns more money than they do. The study surveyed a group of men age 18-28 and found that men who earned significantly less than their wives were five times more likely to cheat than those who earned comparable salaries. Women, on the other hand, behave differently. “[F]or women, economic dependency seems to have the opposite effect: the more dependent they are on their male partners, the less likely they are to engage in infidelity,” said Christin Munsch, a sociology Ph.D. candidate at Cornell University and the author of the study.
If true, this study may hint at a growing problem for marriages in the near future. One odd effect of the economic downturn is that more men have been laid off than women. This, combined with the fact that more women have pursued higher education and entered the workforce in the last few decades has led to a new reality where many women are earning more than their husbands. Yet, the study also showed that men who earn substantially more than their wives are also more likely to cheat than couples who earn roughly the same salaries.
“At one end of the spectrum, making less money than a female partner may threaten men’s gender identity by calling into question the traditional notion of men as breadwinners,” Munsch said in a press release. “At the other end of the spectrum, men who make a lot more money than their partners may be in jobs that offer more opportunities for cheating like long work hours, travel and higher incomes that make cheating easier to conceal.”
So what does this study really show? If you want a husband who doesn’t cheat on you, you may just have to marry someone who earns the exact same amount of money and only accept raises when your husband can get one as well. Or maybe we should just accept that people cheat, and money isn’t the best indicator for why.
