Default Ronald Regan Immigration Amnesty plan II

Another glorious achievement of "Red Ink" Regan (along with Star Wars, B1 bomb of a bomber, and the legacy of deficits that have former conservatives saying deficits are no problemo)

Illegal Amnesty has given us cheap labor, cheap nannies, cheap pool and lawn care, and cheap labor to benefit the businesses that use illegals. The only casualty is the common working man/woman, and they don't care enough to vote alone on this issue, or more importantly, give money to candidates that oppose illegal immigration.

Of course, the wall is a joke. If you think the wall will be effective, tell me, what would you do to feed your family? If you think a wall or more border security is the answer, you are mistaken. If there are jobs to be had, people will go over, under, through or around any wall.

The only way to curb illegal immigration is to take away the profit motive. This means removing jobs for illegals. This REQUIRES large fines for those that hire illegals and a way for employers to check on the status of individuals.

Nothing else will work.

Bad economy keeps illegals in U.S.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 14,`09 (UPI) -- The poor U.S. economy affects illegal immigration two ways: discouraging people from coming to the United States and from leaving, a study reveals.
Quote:
The study released Wednesday by Migration Policy Institute, a non-partisan Washington organization, also said illegal immigrants are less likely to want to return to their native countries because of family and job ties to the United States, The Washington Post reported. Other factors, the study also points out, are to the difficulty they would have if they tried to re-enter at a later date, the lousy economies in their home countries and the strengthening U.S. dollar.

The study also contends that unless the recession lasts a long time, the rate of legal immigration to the United States won't change much.

"The immigration system of the United States makes people wait in line for years to get their visa," said author Demetrios G. Papademetriou. "So by the time it becomes available for a family member or a valued employee people tend to jump at the opportunity. They don't want to return to the back of the line."

The Post said evidence indicates the illegal immigrant population in the United States leveled off over the past year to just under 12 million after years of increases.

Criminal illegals to get more attention...

New Curbs Set on Arrests of Illegal Immigrants
JULY 11, 2009 - Revamped 287g Program Will Target Only Serious Crimes, not Minor Infractions; Sheriff Arpaio Refuses to Ease Up
Quote:
The Department of Homeland Security said Friday it was revising a program that authorized local police to enforce federal immigration law -- a controversial aspect of U.S. border policy. Opponents said the program, known as 287g, was intended to identify criminal aliens but instead has led to racial profiling; it allowed local police to identify and arrest illegal immigrants for such minor infractions as a broken tail light. Program supporters said it has been an effective tool for combating illegal immigration.

The new guidelines sharply reduce the ability of local law enforcement to arrest and screen suspected illegal immigrants. They are intended to prevent sheriff and police departments from arresting people "for minor offenses as a guise to initiate removal proceedings," according to Homeland Security. The program will instead focus on more serious criminals. "In a world of limited resources, our view is that we need to focus first and foremost on people committing crimes in our community who should not be here," said John Morton, Assistant Secretary of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Mr. Morton said his agency would sign new contracts with local law enforcement that would bolster federal oversight.

In the past two years, more than 120,000 suspected illegal immigrants were identified through the program, and most ended up in deportation proceedings. By comparison, ICE removed 356,739 illegal immigrants from the U.S. during the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2008 -- a 23.5% increase over the 2007 total. The most active local enforcer has been Joe Arpaio, the sheriff of Arizona's Maricopa County. He said Friday he would continue pursuing illegal immigrants, arguing that state laws allow neighborhood crime sweeps and worksite raids.

"If I'm told not to enforce immigration law except if the alien is a violent criminal, my answer to that is we are still going to do the same thing, 287g or not," said Mr. Arpaio. His deputies have identified in jail or picked up on the streets more than 30,000 illegal immigrants in the Phoenix area. "We have been very successful," said the five-term sheriff. The Department of Justice is investigating whether Mr. Arpaio's deputies have used skin color as a pretense to stop Latinos suspected of being illegal immigrants.

Lotta support for Sheriff Joe, little federal support for warnin' citizens on public lands...

For Arpaio, ‘Fear Not, Sheriff Joe – That the Sheriffs of America Stand by You,’ Says Arizona Sheriff Babeu
Friday, September 03, 2010 : – Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said the Obama administration’s decision to file a lawsuit against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is not surprising, but that men and women in law enforcement will stand by the man they believe is enforcing the law and protecting the citizens of Arizona.
Quote:
“Hooray for Sheriff Joe,” Babeu told CNSNews.com. “He’s standing up for Arizona and is actually enforcing the law.” Babeu said the lawsuit against Arpaio is the latest in a series of attacks by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), which has already filed a lawsuit against the state of Arizona, challenging legislation passed earlier this year to crack down on illegal immigration in the state.

The DOJ lawsuit against the state claims that Arizona is usurping the federal government’s sole right to enforce immigration law. The case against Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office basically concerns what the DOJ says is that office's interference with its investigation into claims that the Sheriff's Office uses discriminatory practices to catch illegal immigrants.

The lawsuit cites Title VI of the Civil rights Act and states that, “Since March 2009, the United States has attempted to secure Defendants’ voluntary cooperation with the United States’ investigation of alleged national origin discrimination in Defendants’ police practices and jail operations. Despite notice of their obligation to comply in full with the United States’ requests for information, Defendants have refused to do so. Defendants’ refusal to cooperate with reasonable requests for information regarding the use of federal funds is a violation of Defendants’ statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations. The United States accordingly seeks a judgment granting declaratory and injunctive relief for Defendants’ violations of the law.”

Arizona Now Has ‘Whopping 30’ National Guard Troops and 15 Billboard Signs Warning Citizens About Drug Cartels Operating on Public Lands
Wednesday, September 01, 2010 – Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said requests by Arizona law enforcement personnel and Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) for 3,000 National Guard troops along the state’s border with Mexico have been answered so far with 1 percent of that number deployed there this week.
Quote:
“We have a whopping 30 [National Guard troops] this week that are showing up,” Babeu told CNSNews.com. “It’s less than a half-hearted measure designed to fail.” But the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has placed 15 signs along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 that links San Diego with Phoenix and Tucson warning travelers of drug cartels and human trafficking operations.

“DANGER – PUBLIC WARNING, TRAVEL NOT RECOMMENDED,” read the signs placed along Interstate 8. “Visitors May Encounter Armed Criminals and Smuggling Vehicles Traveling at High Rates of Speed. Stay Away From Trash, Clothing, Backpacks, and Abandoned Vehicles.” “BLM Encourages Visitors To Use Public Land North of Interstate 8,” the signs say.

“I think the American people are outraged that we can fight wars half-way around the world, send our nation’s treasury and our most precious resources – our American heroes that serve in the military -- and yet here in our own country somehow they believe it’s okay for us not to have a secure border,” Said Sheriff Babeu. “And that it’s okay to put up signs in my county and parts of America to surrender parts of our country to foreign born criminals,” Babeu added, “warning our own American citizens to stay out.”

'Toughest sheriff' recruits big names for border 'posse'
Wednesday, November 17, 2010 - "America's toughest sheriff," Phoenix's Joe Arpaio, is creating an armed "Immigration Posse" to combat illegal immigration, and Hollywood actors Steven Seagal and Lou Ferrigno, along with Dick Tracy and Wyatt Earp, have signed up.
Quote:
Fighting Justice Department accusations that his office discriminated against illegal immigrants during arrests, Sheriff Arpaio said the civilian posse of more than 50 members gives citizens a chance to fight the problem inundating their border state.

"Law enforcement budgets are being cut and agencies are losing personnel and yet the battle to stop illegal immigration must continue," said the sheriff, who heads the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. "Arizona is the busiest port of entry for people being smuggled in from Mexico, Latin and South America. So asking for the public's help in this endeavor makes sense, especially given the success the posses have experienced over the years." Fifty-six new Immigration Posse members from various professions were sworn in by the sheriff Wednesday as "illegal immigration fighters."

Mr. Seagal, who starred in such action movies as "Under Siege" and "Above the Law," is a sworn deputy in New Orleans. Mr. Ferrigno, who played the title role in the 1970s TV series "The Incredible Hulk," works as a reserve deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office. Another new civilian volunteer is Peter Lupus, who starred in "Mission Impossible."
